Sally Anne Campbell, with her daughter Samantha, and newborn Sean.

When I started MyMcDiet.com, I wanted to create a publicity opportunity for McDonalds and for the Susan G. Komen 3Day event simultaneously. That's what I thought anyway. Turned out that McDonald's was not very interested in helping my efforts, they do plenty on their own. I am a huge fan of the Ronald McDonald House Charities, so I made every effort to go it alone. By the time the event is over we will have had around 100,000 hits on the site and some local media coverage. So all in all that is better than if I just joined up and walked. At least I created some additional attention for both causes.

A few days after announcing MyMcDiet.com, I was confronted by Susan, a friend and coworker at the time. She asked me why I chose Breast Cancer as a cause. I told her I really did not know, as I have always worked for children's and handicap causes. I really never have focused on adult causes because, I felt, adults have had the chance to experience much more than children, and children are innocent and miss out on so much. Seems harsh but I can not spread myself out and children are my soft spot, I guess.

So Susan told me her sister Sally, who just passed away, died of Breast Cancer. I met Sally a few times when she would stop in to see her sister Susan and her Mother, Marian whom I worked with at the time. I knew she was sick but never investigated it because it was not my business and I really did not know them very well.

Over the past few months while I pursued media attention to raise awareness and the money for my walk, Susan and her kids, and Marian and Samantha, went out fundraising for me. Samantha went door to door and raised the bulk of the money donated through MyMcDiet.com.

I also got to know their family pretty well and now I have been drawn into their story. You see, Sean and Samantha were left in the care of their Grandmother Marian, and Aunt Susan. So I learned a great deal about breast cancer along the way and found out that there are an overwhelming amount of people affected by this disease. I found out that "we are" working for a children's cause afterall.

The other aspect of this story is that Sally was undergoing treatment while she was pregnant with Sean. I guess that makes him, a survivor.

Was I wrong when I thought this was an adult cause. I understand much more now and because they taught me so much I have decided to dedicate my efforts to Sally. McDonalds can take care of themselves, and I don't mean that negatively, I just know they take care of their causes, their way and don't need my help. But these kids do. So in the name of their Mom, I will finish this effort and walk for them and other kids so they too will not lose their Moms.

The Race for the Cure is Sunday and Susan formed a team for her late sister. She raised $1,000. for the cause and ironically the walk is on Sean's first birthday. I will join them there for that walk and then I only have two more weeks to raise the money before the 3 Day. This is the last chance for you to help.

Please donate so I can walk in the Susan Komen 3 day. It means so much to me, Samantha, Sean and the rest of the family.
